If you’ve driven down Rt. 28 near Harwichport lately you’ve probably noticed the 3 geodesic domes going up in front of Jake Rooney’s. What are these mysterious domes? As a way to keep their outdoor business going, Jake’s is installing heated outdoor dining igloos. Inside the igloos, diners will be safe from weather and cold, and able to have their dinner delivered to them in their own, private, outdoor dining room!

Of course Jake’s continues to be diligent about covid-safe, healthy, social distancing protocols which follow the latest standards set forth by the governor. Guests enter to a completely sterilized environment. Dishes, silverware, condiments etc are sterilized before and after use. When the customers leave, the table is cleared, the windows are opened to vent the air, the tables and chairs are sterilized and finally the igloo is sprayed with a disinfectant fogging gun to provide a safe, clean environment.

Why did we decide to put up the domes?  We’ve taken inspiration from other cities, including Provincetown and Dennis, after learning that people really enjoy the experience. A private, under the stars, outdoor table that’s safe and heated! And we’ve gotten a lot of interest so far – people asking when they can make reservations, how it works, when are they open…So we are happy to say that outdoor dining is OPEN again.
